Maryland Heights Council Smooths Path For Ice Complex

Groundbreaking for the long-awaited multi-purpose ice complex near Hollywood Casino in Maryland Heights is expected by the third week of July, city officials said Thursday night after a package of nine bills and resolutions related to the project was quickly approved by the City Council.

The not-for-profit St. Louis Legacy Ice Foundation will build and operate the 275,000-square feet facility, and purchase the 25-acre site. A $54 million bond issue by the Maryland Heights Industrial Development Authority, a negotiated $6.5 million cash contribution by the city and about $18 million more in contributions, grants and a community improvement sales tax will support the project.
